Web Design Process

Cornish Web Design Process

As with all of our projects, the first thing we do is listen. To us, this is probably the most important part, to establish where you’re currently at, and what you need to achieve with a new website. This enables us to do what we do best – problem solving. We start the ideas flowing, and agree on a price and timeline.

Once underway, we build the first 2 or 3 pages of the site to establish an overall look and feel. This gives us enough of a grounding that you can see the direction in which things are going. Not only that, its early enough on in the project that if we need to work in an entirely different direction, we can do so.

After those initial ideas are signed off we then build the rest of the site, taking your content and turning it into something beautiful. The completed site will then be submitted to you for your approval and we will go through 2 rounds of amends to get things just right.

Once signed off, we then make the site live and go through several launch steps to make sure your new website gets the best start in life, including:

  • Linking up social media
  • Submitting your site to the likes of Google and Bing
  • Adding in analytics so you can track your visitors

Web Design FAQ

How much does a website cost?

This is a question we get asked a lot, and in truth theres no definitive answer because every case is different. The main factors which affect the cost include size of size required, the complexity of functionality, level of design and source of content and images.

How long does it take to make a website?

If you have all the content ready upfront and are quick to come back to us with feedback, we can be done in as little as 2-3 weeks. Typically though, most projects run 4-6 weeks.

What is a domain?

A domain is the web address that identifies your website and can be typed directly into the browser. Most UK business websites end in either .co.uk or .com – ours is www.designersdownsouth.com.

To get a name you will have to purchase it from a domain registrar such as 123reg or GoDaddy. You can register them for up to ten years, with the minimum term being one year. Typically you will pay £10-£12 per year for a .com and £6-£8 per year for a .co.uk.

We recommend purchasing both the .co.uk and .com versions of your domain, if nothing else to stop your competitors buying the one you don’t register to attempt to steal your visitors and sales!

What is hosting?

Hosting is the place where the files associated with your website live. Similarly to the domain this is an ongoing cost with most web hosting companies offering monthly and yearly rolling plans.

Depending on your website requirements you may need a special type of hosting – get in touch if you need any help.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, Bank Transfer (preferred) and Cheque.

What is the payment schedule for a new site?

We take a 50% deposit up front to get the project booked in and started.

Once we work our way through the process, the final 50% will then be due before the website is made live.

How much content do I need to provide?

To make things nice and simple we break everything down into text and images.

For the website text, for most projects we’ll ask you to supply all of it. This is to help keep costs down, and by default you know all the intricacies of your business that you want to talk about.

For images, we can either use the images you send us, or we have access to some fantastic image libraries that will do the job. Most projects end of being a mix of both.

How do I update my website?

If your website is on a content management system (such as WordPress), we’ll walk you through the basics when we handover the site. For ongoing updates, we’re always around if you have a quick question, and if the update is beyond your comfort zone, we have an easy flat rate to provide ongoing services.

What are the ongoing costs of having a website?

As mentioned above, you will need to pay for hosting and keeping the domain registered on an ongoing basis. It’s also worth bearing in mind ongoing updates and maintenance, which we can help out with on a flat hourly fee.

You may also want to think about advertising costs such as Google AdWords and LinkedIn/Facebook ads, depending on where your target audience is.

Other related services which also help the site are Social Media Management and SEO.

What if I don’t like the design?

As part of our web design Cornwall process, we put together a couple of pages early on the establish the look and feel of the site. It’s at this stage that we tweak until you’re happy, which makes sure we’re building the bulk of the site in a style which you’re proud to put your name to.
